Expedia is where many visitors already hold their Maui hotel and flights, so adding a helicopter tour to the same itinerary is the path of least resistance. Its Things to Do section lists the Kahului Heliport flights you will find everywhere else: the 45-minute West Maui and Molokai flights, the doors-off flight, Hana and Haleakalā, and the longer landing tours. There is no Expedia-only price. What Expedia adds is the One Key rewards program, a single login and a cancellation line printed on each listing.
What Expedia and Hotels.com Activities are
Expedia and Hotels.com belong to Expedia Group, which also runs Vrbo, Orbitz, Travelocity, Hotwire and CheapTickets. The Things to Do marketplace sells tickets and tours supplied by operators and their distributors; Hotels.com sells activities under the same One Key program. On a Maui helicopter listing the operator's name appears directly under the title, the meeting point is given as the Kahului Heliport, and features such as mobile voucher, instant confirmation and, where offered, free cancellation are shown as badges.
That structure is the useful part. Before you pay you can see who flies the tour, match the name with our reviews of Air Maui, Blue Hawaiian and Maverick, and read the cancellation cutoff rather than a generic policy.
One Key: what the 2% is worth
One Key is Expedia Group's free rewards program across Expedia, Hotels.com and Vrbo, currently open to accounts on the US and UK sites. On a helicopter tour that means roughly $8 back on a $400 flight, credited after you travel. It is not a discount you see at checkout, and it will not decide the comparison on its own. It does tip the balance if you already hold OneKeyCash to spend or you are booking a full Maui itinerary that pushes you into a higher tier.
How a booking works
You pick a date and a time slot in the listing's calendar, pay Expedia, and receive a mobile voucher with the operator's check-in instructions; an instant-confirmation badge means the booking is confirmed at purchase rather than sent to the operator as a request. From there the flight is the operator's: arrive at the Kahului Heliport about 30 minutes before the slot (Air Maui requires a 30-minute check-in), step on the scale, sit through the briefing, and fly. If the pilot cancels for weather, the operator offers a new slot first and a refund runs back through Expedia, the company that took your payment; if you cancel, the cutoff printed on the Expedia listing decides what you get back, and it can differ from the operator's own rule (48 hours at Air Maui, 24 hours at Blue Hawaiian, 72 hours at Maverick, according to their sites). Expedia listings show the price per traveler and an availability calendar. Put them against two anchors (prices checked regularly): the operator's own site and GetYourGuide, our partner. Air Maui shows its doors-off West Maui and Molokai flight at $429.99 per person on airmaui.com; on GetYourGuide the doors-off flight is $451.99 and the doors-on West Maui and Molokai Special is $395.99. Weight rules deserve a line of their own. Air Maui's doors-off flight requires a comfort seat at a combined 400 lb for two passengers, a 190 lb average for groups of three or more, and for any passenger over 250 lb, with a minimum age of 10, according to airmaui.com; other operators publish their own limits.
